DEUTSCHE VERSION

Would you like to share the costs ?

Dearest Reader!

In the guest book and in emails, I can read your joy when you were able to find this or that detail pertaining to your genealogical research on my website without much trouble.
Some even find several generations of their ancestors at once!

Many express their thanks for the time and effort behind this website and some also ask how they can share the costs.
And it's true: the website doesn't just take a lot of work; it also creates a lot of expenses:

  • The fees for the internet provider, but those are very small.
  • Technical books, mainly town chronicles, but also directories (occupational descriptions, encyclopedia of towns, calendar converter, finding aids, etc.)
  • Costs of photocopying out-of-stock books and compositions (subscription price for 1000 copies = 50 euros)
  • Travel expenses for trips to archives and to assistants
  • Costs of photocopying files from the archives in Hamburg and Schleswig
  • Costs of CD's and their postage to the assistants
  • Costs of printer toner and paper

You can see that "job salary" is not at issue here. It's also not necessary, because this website is a hobby, after all.
It is another matter, though, when I am specifically requested to do research and work on only this matter for hours. For that (certainly in consideration of professional genealogists), I must have payment. But I only do such research in exceptional cases and prefer to leave them to the church archivists and commercial genealogists. I simply do not have the time for it.

    My last "acquisitions" were:
  • 1 used printer (as new) Canon IP4000 at ebay : 145.95 euros

So.... would you like to share the costs? That would be most amicable of you and would help us all (namely, the "StormarnTeam" and you as user of the website).
With hope for your understanding of this question and warmest thanks in advance,
    Your Peter (Dörling)
